How to unclog a sink with dish soap and hot water

Dish soap and hot water could be the solution

Preventing is always better than fixing but a clogged sink happens. Super annoying, but thankfully you don’t need to run straight to chemical solutions. Just dish soap and hot water can get you pretty far.

No chemicals

Ryan Nelson, owner of Nelson’s Plumbing, tells LankMarkhw that it’s best not to use chemicals to unclog a sink. “Chemical drain cleaners only damage pipes,” he says. He recommends deleting the source of the block, but unfortunately that’s not always possible. Fortunately, you can also try to get rid of the blockage with dish soap and warm water.

Hot water

If you have a blockage in your kitchen drain, Nelson recommends draining the hot water into the sink first. And by hot water, he doesn’t mean the hottest water coming out of the tap. The best thing to do is to boil some water. Once kettle water is boiled, it usually reaches around 90 to 95 degrees, while the hottest tap water usually does not exceed 70 degrees.
