There are two methods you can use: stamping and tracing.

Find mudcloth inspiration patterns that you like. You can browse the patterns here and then print out the ones you want to use.

First Method: Tracing

Tracing lets you be more precise with your design choice. You can also use multiple colors this way!

What You Need

-white pillowcase

-pillow insert

-cutting board

-printable pattern

-carbon paper

-pencil

-fabric pen

Start by placing the cutting board, pillowcase, carbon paper and printed design so you can trace the design with a pencil. Tuck the cutting board into the pillowcase so you have a surface to trace on. Then place the carbon paper on the pillowcase. Place the printed design on the carbon paper with the design side up.

Trace the pattern firmly, but be sure not to puncture the paper. This will transfer the carbon paper to the pillowcase. This way you can also mix and match different printed designs to totally personalize it. Repeat on the other side of the pillow if desired Draw over the graphite design with a fabric marker in the color of your choice. Then trace and fill in the design with a permanent fabric marker and let the marker dry completely before using the pillow. Place your new patterned pillow where you want it.
